Giving Hope, Saving Lives
This December, we’re running our annual fundraising Campaign, themed Giving Hope, Saving Lives. This campaign is raising funds to expand critical preventive mental health services and resilience-building programs for youth and families across Orange County.
Youth mental health is at a critical juncture.
According to the CDC, over 40% of high school students report persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness, and suicide is now the second leading cause of death among youth ages 10-24. Preventive mental health care is essential, yet less than 3% of healthcare funding is dedicated to preventive care, with even fewer resources allocated specifically to youth mental wellness.
At Western Youth Services, we are working to close this gap through programs like Super Resilient® Youth and One Door Any Door® Access Coordination. These initiatives equip young people with resilience-building tools, helping them to overcome adversity and work toward brighter futures. By supporting our annual fundraising campaign, you are investing in the mental well-being of Orange County’s future leaders, creating lasting, positive change in our community.

Hello,
[I’m/We’re] reaching out to share an important initiative from Western Youth Services that [I’m/we’re] proud to support: the Annual Fundraising Campaign, Giving Hope, Saving Lives. This month-long campaign is dedicated to raising funds to expand critical preventive mental health programs for youth and families across Orange County.
The need is urgent—many young people in our community face significant mental health challenges, with over 40% of high school students reporting persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness, according to the CDC. Suicide is now the second leading cause of death among youth ages 10-24. Preventive services are essential in providing young people with the tools to navigate life’s adversities, and Western Youth Services is working tirelessly to bridge this gap. But they need your help to expand programs that foster resilience and offer early intervention for at-risk youth.
Here are a few ways you can make a difference:

Prevention is Key to Youth Mental Wellness
At Western Youth Services, we know that the journey to mental wellness starts long before challenges reach a crisis point. Our work is dedicated to addressing the youth mental health crisis at its roots, providing the support young people need before struggles escalate. Research shows that half of all mental health conditions begin by age 14. Imagine the impact if we could reach these young people early—giving them the tools to understand and manage their emotions before feelings of hopelessness or behaviors become overwhelming.
Our preventive programs are designed to equip youth with coping skills, resilience, and confidence to manage life’s ups and downs. Think of a young person learning, for the first time, how to recognize and express their emotions in a healthy way. Picture them gaining the confidence to face school stress or home challenges with a sense of strength and self-worth. By teaching these skills early on, we’re helping youth not only navigate current adversities but also lay a foundation for a future free from cycles of trauma or unaddressed mental health struggles.
Every step in prevention helps change the story of youth mental health in our community. Through your support of the End-of-Year Campaign, Empowering Youth, Strengthening Our Community, you’re making this impact possible—helping more young people face life’s challenges with strength, resilience, and hope for a brighter tomorrow.
